ISP Eircom.net to begin charging for email service

Eircom.net is the 1st generation email account still used & heavily depended on by thousands of Irish citizens, most of whom have no clue how to switch to Gmail or an alternative premium email account.

The email service that has been free for many years will be a €5.99 monthly charge starting July 1st 2020.

While it may seem daunting to change email address, especially if you plan on moving to free email service. There are a few premium email services that offer free email import tools. 

Users of the service took to twitter to express frustrations.

Just found out that @eir @eircare are charging €5.99 per month from tomorrow to use their email service. My @eircom.net email was the first email address i had and have being using it since about 2000. A sad day when gmail is free and eir is €5.99 p/m. Goodbye Eir, thieves.

From March 31, if an Eircom .net account holder doesn't pay the monthly fee, they won't be able to open email messages. If the fee is not paid within 2 months, the individual's email account will be deleted

Um, is this correct @eir? My @EIRCOM.NET accounts which I have had since internet time began are now suddenly to be a €5.99/mth fee, from next month?

Like, why? How? I must have thought any earlier notices were spam cos that is ridiculous!

If you are @eircom.net .. you now have to pay . Just like I found out that my "unlimited" broadband is not so unlimited with a € 100 extra charge today. Nice for struggling families at home
