Google confessed, "We're aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a significant subset of users. The affected users are able to access Gmail but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 12/15/20, 5:30 PM [Eastern US]detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change."
Besides Gmail users taking to social media today to note issues with the email service, Google itself has posted an update to its Gmail status page explaining that there is a problem with the email service at the moment. What’s more, Google says it is aware that a “significant subset of users” are possibly being affected. Google hasn’t explained what’s causing the issue or when it expects the problem to be resolved, although it is due to provide further updates as the problem continues. Besides the initial update, a second update was released confirming the Gmail issues are ongoing and the company is “continuing to investigate” while a third update suggested that the issue might be fixed for some, but not all users.
