Microsoft Probes Major Outage Impacting Microsoft 365 and Azure Services Globally

Microsoft is currently investigating a significant global outage affecting access to several Microsoft 365 and Azure services.

"We're actively looking into access issues and performance degradation across multiple Microsoft 365 services. Details can be found under MO842351 in the admin center," Microsoft announced.

However, numerous users report difficulty accessing the Microsoft 365 admin center and the Service Health Status page, which should provide real-time updates on issues impacting Microsoft Azure and the Microsoft 365/Power Platform admin centers.

At present, the incident is said to be affecting users worldwide, though it is limited to a subset of Microsoft’s services.

"We are investigating reports of connection issues with Microsoft services globally. Customers may experience timeouts when connecting to Azure services," Microsoft stated on the Azure status page.

"Several engineering teams are engaged in diagnosing and resolving the issue. Further details will be shared as soon as possible."

Microsoft 365 Service Disruption

Since the outage began roughly one hour ago, Downdetector has received hundreds of reports from affected users. The reports indicate that Entra, Intune, and Power Apps are down, and users are experiencing problems connecting to Microsoft 365 websites and Outlook.

Despite Microsoft's investigation, the Office service health and Microsoft 365 network health status pages currently indicate no issues with Microsoft's network or availability, the customer's network infrastructure, or internet service provider availability.

Update July 30, 10:14 EDT:

Microsoft confirmed that the outage has impacted the Microsoft 365 admin center, Intune, Entra, and Power Platform services. SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Exchange Online remain unaffected.

"Users who are able to access the impacted Microsoft 365 services may experience latency or reduced feature performance," Microsoft explained on the service health status page.

"We are analyzing traffic patterns within a section of our networking infrastructure as part of our investigation. Additionally, we are considering mitigation options, including potential failovers, to alleviate the issue."

Update July 30, 11:15 EDT:

Microsoft reported improvements in service availability following a networking configuration change.

"We've implemented a networking configuration change, and some Microsoft 365 services have performed failovers to alternate networking paths to alleviate the issue," the company stated.

"Monitoring telemetry shows improvements in service availability, and we are continuing to monitor to ensure full recovery."
